Operations of tourism facilities in Ghana to be reviewed

Mr Joseph Appiagyei Acting Brong Ahafo Regional Manager of the Ghana Tourism Authority, who disclosed this in an exclusive interview with mynewsgh.com, however stated that this must go through parliament before it could be enforced.

“Just like we are doing for hotels and ensuring that they meet certain requirements, we will do same to tourism facilities in the country so that they meet standards”, he said.

He however revealed that an audit will be conducted on the Kintampo waterfalls during the period of closure to determine certain parameters he failed to mention.

“We will conduct an audit into the entire operations of the facility and also ensure that it meets standards to avert a similar occurrence in the future. In the meantime, we have directed that the facility remain closed …..This is not my directive but it was agreed by the National, Regional and Municipal Security Councils. ”, he stated.

It would be recalled that about 18 died and more than 30 left with various degrees of injuries after trees at the waterfalls fell on revelers last Sunday afternoon.

The deceased persons were mostly students from the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School and other students from S the University of Natural Resources in Sunyani and holiday makers.
