Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed he can still play football for the next eight to ten years despite being blighted by injury problems.
Asamoah Gyan, who is the country’s leading scorer, has struggled to stay injury free after suffering a series of injuries that has affected his club and national team duties.
The captain of the senior national team had a poor Africa Cup of Nations campaign due to injury which saw him miss some crucial games in Gabon. But the lethal forward has returned and is at his best once again scoring goals for his club, Al Ahly.
“When I started getting injured, I got a bit frustrated. I had people telling me to retire from the game. But when things like this happen in your career, it’s a test on your mental toughness. For me I can overcome all these obstacles, and I think I can play for more years,” he said on Hot FM.
Gyan insists his level of dedication for the game can see him through for many years in the game.
“One thing about football is dedication. When you dedicate yourself to the game, it motivates you to wake up at dawn to go to training. Wake up early morning for training. Sometimes your club calls you asking you why you are late for training. It’s like you are being forced to train but with dedication you want to give your all,” he added.
“I can tell you dedication is the reason why a lot of players retire. It’s get to a time even to wake up and go for training it becomes difficult. And most players don’t want to be coerced in to training, hence the reason they quit early.”
