120 Muslim girls to be trained in leadership positions

Accra, Feb. 23, GNA- One hundred and twenty Muslims girls will participate in a leadership project being organize by the British Council in Accra on Tuesday, February 24, 2004.

The course dubbed, "Islamic Girls Rights and Leadership Project" is aimed at challenging the girls to aspire for leadership positions such as assemblywomen, Parliamentarians, and Minister of State and other professionals.


A statement issued by the British Council on Monday said the project would afford the girls the opportunity to engage in a role model interaction with seasoned women of distinctions in leadership positions. Issues that would be tackled included, Muslims women participation in politics - challenges and strategies for survival, The Muslim Girl-Child and Education - Challenges and Way Forward and the place of the Muslim girl in contemporary British Society.

The project which begun last year, is one of several implemented globally by the British Council as part of its "Connecting Futures" programme - a five year initiative to build better understanding, learning and respect between young people from different cultural background.
