Fake visa contractor in Court

Accra, Feb 24, GNA - Mr Kofi Boakye, Travel Agent, appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday for issuing a fake visa to Mr Clement Agyare after defrauding him of an amount of 42 million cedis. Boakye pleaded not guilty and was granted bail to the tune of 50 million cedis with one surety to reappear on March 22.

Police Chief Inspector George Abavalim to the court presided over by Mrs Elizabeth Ankumah that on November 16, 2002, Mr Agyare was introduced to Boakye as someone who could help him to secure travelling documents to Britain.

The Prosecutor said, as a result, the accused person collected 42 million cedis from Mr Agyare to enable him to process the documents. Inspector Abavalim said, on November 18, 2002, Boakye led Mr Agyare to the Kotoko International Airport, where the visa was handed over to him to board a plane to Zurich on transit to London.

He said at the Zurich Airport, the visa was detected to be a fake and the complainant was deported to Ghana.

Inspector Abavalim said after several demands for his money from the accused person had failed Mr Agyare reported the matter to the Police.

He said Boakye paid 10 million cedis as part payment but had failed to settle the rest.
