Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has said former President John Mahama has confessed to paying dearly for the 2016 elections for ignoring his counsel.
Addressing a gathering at the Manhyia palace during a visit of President Nana Akufo-Addo, Otumfuo Osei Tutu said not long after the 7 December 2016 elections which Mr Mahama and his NDC lost, he came over and confessed that he should not have ignored “my counsel”.
According to Otumfuo Osei Tutu, other former presidents apart from Mr Mahama also made similar confessions in the past.
He said Mr Jerry John Rawlings, Mr John Kufuor and Prof John Evans Atta Mills all expressed similar sentiments.
Mr Mahama became the first living one-term president in the history of Ghana. His predecessor, Prof Mills died in office before finishing his first term.
In the Asante mornach’s estimation, Mr Mahama lost because Ghanaians were hungry and angry with his administration.
