Mr. Nii Charles Adjetey Sowah, who may have entered into politics with the sole aim of amassing wealth to better his life, is now playing hide and seek with the long arms of the law.

Adjetey Sowah, who is the Volta Regional Secretary of the CPP, has allegedly misappropriated ?66.1 million meant to strengthen the party at the grassroots level in the region.

He is said to be in a hide out and the regional secretariat of the party has promised an undisclosed amount as price tag to whoever would provide any vital information leading to his arrest.

Meanwhile a complaint has been made to the Ho Central Police for his arrest. The said Adjetey Sowah had earlier been dismissed from the Ghana Police Service in 1985 for gross misconduct and has since then been parading himself as a journalist under the pen name of Maach Adjetey.

Briefing the media at Dzodze, the regional chairman of CPP, Prince Ahiadzro, said before he took office in 2003 he was informed that the flagbearer of the party, Mr. George Opesika Aguddey, had released an amount of ?65 million to Sowah, who was then the acting Secretary, to open offices throughout the 19 constituencies and for the provision of signboards in all towns, villages and hamlets throughout the region.

But surprisingly Sowah did not do as directed but rather misappropriated the money. Mr. Ahiadzro said Mr. Aggudey confirmed to him that he gave Sowah ?65 million for the assignment but Sowah at a regional steering committee meeting denied ever receiving that amount but rather ?55 million.

The regional Chairman alleged that Sowah approached him again and collected ?1.1 million from him personally to pay for December 2003 salaries of the regional Secretariat staff and rent advance for Ho East constituency office but has ran into thin air with that money too.

Mr. Ahiadzro said when he was again summoned before the steering committee he pleaded that he should be allowed to pay back the money by installments with an initial deposit of 12 million by the end of December 2003.

Since then, the regional Chairman, said he has been dodging them.

He said the police are regularly harassing two carpenters Sowah commissioned to manufacture the signboards for non-payments for the boards they bought on credits for the job.

Mr. Ahiadzro said he had no option than to report his conduct to the Central Committee of the party in Accra which directed him to report the absconding secretary to the police for action.

The Chairman said he had duly informed the police and given statement to that effect. In an answer to a question, he debunked the claim by the Regional Secretary that he is the special assistant to the flagbearer, emphasizing that he would never and could not be what he claims to be with such a dubious character.

The police have confirmed to The Heritage that a report has been made to that effect and they are seriously looking for Sowah, adding that political parties are not gold mines for amassing wealth.

Meanwhile, the regional chairman has directed that every party property in the custody of Sowah be returned to the secretariat, including the party's van.
