Deputy Minister designate for Information, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah has rejected new transport fares introduced by the various transport unions describing it as unacceptable.

Oppong-Nkrumah, who is a member of the Finance Committee of parliament insists the transport unions have no justifications for the upward review of transport fares.

The Ofoase-Ayirebi Member of Parliament was speaking on Abusua Nkommo in reaction to the decision of the transport unions to increase fares by 15%. Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah said, ”it would have been prudent for operators to maintain their old prices following the new tax cuts which has taken effect.”

”The campaign promise to cut nuisance taxes; to ensure businesses are relieved, has taken effect. What is left is for us to ensure that the various agencies will do their part so Ghanaians benefit fully from the tax cuts-so our efforts will not be in vain,” he added.

“One of such worrying situation is the increment in transport fares. We expected that, transport fares would have been maintained due to the reduction on petroleum tax and spare parts,” Oppong Nkrumah lamented.
