The University of Education, Winneba Campus has launched a road safety program aimed at educating drivers across the country to reduce the incidents of carnage on the country’s roads.

The program themed “Ensuring Road Safety by University Drivers” is also meant to educate about One Hundred and Twenty (120) drivers on preventive measures as part of the education.

Head of transport (UEW) Alvin Andoh said, his outfit is looking forward to preventing injuries or accidents with the road safety education which will be delivered through this program.

While also using these lifesaving measures to demonstrate to government that they too can and indeed must act to save the lives of the most vulnerable citizens on our roads, he called for collaboration from various stakeholders in curbing the increasing spate of road accidents.

“All the stakeholders on our roads have a vital role to play. The media should help in giving free airtime for road safety education. GPRTU and DVLA should have a compulsory in-service training or refresher courses for drivers at least once a year. MTTU should also be proactive on our various roads’.

“We believe with these approaches , as well as promoting sustainable safety solutions it will contribute to ensure safe and healthy journeys to our dear people and will also enhance a brighter future for Ghana” he added.

He further explained that since the transport sector is one of the most valuable department of the institution, there is a need for preventive measures for the betterment of the School which is a community on its own.
