Ghanaians urged to vote out NPP

Akim Oda, Feb 27, GNA - The Chairman of the NDC, Dr Obed Yaw Asamoah, has urged the electorate to vote the NPP out of office in the December elections because of the hardships brought about by the conditions attached to the HIPC initiative.

Addressing party supporters at Akim Oda on Thursday, he reminded Ghanaians that, "it is within your power to change the present hopeless situation you find yourself in by not renewing the mandate of the government".

He explained that under the conditions attached to the HIPC initiative, a country which opted for it was required to pursue full a cost recovery programme by lifting subsidies on goods and services thereby making life unbearable for the people, especially the less privileged.

Dr Asamoah said when voted into power an NDC government would review the HIPC initiative to ensure that the people would be able to "buy kerosene, pay electricity and water bills as well as school fees for their children without tears".

The National Organizer of the party, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, charged NDC supporters to register in their numbers when the voters register is re-opened on March 16 and to vote massively for the party in the December Presidential and Parliamentary elections. He called on Ghanaians not to sign "their death warrant" by voting for the NPP again.

Comparing prices of goods and services, Mr Ofosu Ampofo said while a gallon of kerosene sold at 6,400 cedis in 2000, the commodity is now being sold at 20,000 cedis.

Mr Ofosu Ampofo expressed concern about the way and manner the government laid off employees of the National Mobilisation Programme (NMP) and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) "only to replace them with card bearing members of NPP."

The National Deputy General Secretary of the Party, Mr Ahmed Baba Jamal, urged NDC supporters to intensify their campaign to be able to counteract lies and negative propaganda being peddled by the NPP government.
