Accra, Feb 27, GNA - Mr Kwamena Bartels, Minister for Private Sector Development on Friday called on Ghanaian entrepreneurs to pay attention to local business practices and improve them to meet international standards.

He said there was the need to begin to "chronicle experiences of Ghanaian entrepreneurs to be encouraged to share the secrets of their successes, talk about known opportunities and pitfalls in the Ghanaian business terrain."

That is the surest way to develop Ghana's own business culture", Mr Bartels made the call when he launched the maiden edition of the "Business and Corporate Excellence" (BCE), a local business magazine in Accra.

The first edition of the 38-paged monthly magazine has the map of Ghana at the front page, showcasing some local food crops and Ghanaian businessmen and women at work.

Mr Bartels said the magazine was a welcomed development since it would provide appropriate information to guide private sector operators, both beginners and long time practitioners.

He said unlike what happened in other cultures, many of the country's leaders in business and industry did not share their experiences with others in writing, making business persons, investors and researchers to get stacked when seeking information to understand or solve some local business problems.

Mr Bartels, therefore, commended the publishers of the BCE for their foresight, as competition became keen in the private sector, information on the best practices would become vital resource for decision-making and business success.

He advised the publishers to let the magazine remain relevant towards its targets by focusing "diligently on the nation's emerging private sector and feed it with well-researched information on best business practices.

Mr William Dowokpor, Chairman and Editor-in-chief of the Magazine, said the publication was to assist Ghanaian businesses to achieve excellence through the sharing of knowledge and application of best practices in business and corporate governance.

He said: "Excellence is a journey and it is our belief that no matter how small a business is, it must start making moves towards that end. Thus, in this maiden edition we feature comprehensive and well researched articles, true business and family life cases, written by leading management strategists."
