Tema, Feb. 27, GNA- The Tema Municipal Health Administration has targeted 120,509 children under five years to be immunised against poliomyelitis disease, Mrs Doris Barnor, Deputy Director of Nursing Services told the Ghana News Agency at Tema.
She said this time round the exercise is emphasising on moving from house to house and the schools to give the vaccines to children. Mrs Barnor said 1,004 volunteers made up of the youth and health workers have been tasked to carry out the immunisation exercise in the municipality and she commended the Rotary Club of Tema and the Tema Municipal Assembly for providing transport and fuel to transport the volunteers to and from various communities.
She said the health administration would make assessment of the exercise on Sunday and if found to be below expectation centres would be mounted in the communities for mothers to have easy access to immunise their children.
Mrs Judith Amoo Mensah, a public health officer of the Tema Polyclinic stated that though the exercise was being carried out in the communities a lot of mothers rushed to with their children to the Polyclinic to have them immunised.
She noticed that all the mothers were from low income group and that because the exercise was free they were willing to patronise it and hoped all mothers would do same to ensure the success of the nationwide exercise.
