The $30 million housing facilities financed by Perseus Mining Limited and commissioned by President Akufo-Addo earlier this year have become death traps to residents of Ayamfuri in the Upper West Denkyire of the Central Region.

Occupants are crying for urgent repair works following some structural defects as a result of substandard materials used by a local contractor who services was engaged by the mining firm to construct over two hundred buildings for the settlers.

This was upon agreement to compensate the people after ejecting them from their old location with the explanation from the Perseus Mining Limited that their operations are likely to affect their health.

Having moved to settle in their new community, the buildings have started developing serious cracks posing threat to lives of occupants.

Paramount Chief of Ayamfuri, Nana Kwadwo Appiah III on behalf of the people accused government of not doing due diligence before commissioning the projects.

According to him, it is the responsibility of the Ministry of Works and Housing to ensure quality of the structures by monitoring to enforce directives that proper materials are used.

Leaders of the three communities Ensuagya North, Fetish and Kyereawewe complained to mynewsgh.com that their current homes lack the basic social amenities including portable water appealing to government for immediate assistance.

According to the aggrieved residents, the mining firm promised to foot hospital bills of those who are suffering from the operational activities of the firm but management has since failed to honour it’s promises.
