Some buildings at the Coconut Groove Hotel gutted by fire
The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, D.O1 Prince Billy Anaglatey says the lack of an helicopter is hampering their effort to combat fire effectively.
Due to the high-rise buildings and emerging technology people use in building these days, the need for helicopter fire fighter cannot be over-emphasised, he asserted.
He noted that they have been doing their best in fighting fire in the country in spite of the fact that the Ghana National Fire Service is under resourced.
Speaking on the fire that gutted some buildings on the Coconut Groove Hotel compound in Accra Saturday, he promised that the necessary investigation would be conducted to unveil the actual cause of the fire.
On Ghana Dadwen, an afternoon show on Onua FM hosted by Nana Okyere Awurukuo, Mr. Anaglatey encouraged the public to take serious interest in fire safety education being rolled out by the service.
He bemoaned the fact that some institutions although have fire extinguishers hanged all over their compound, staff do not have knowledge on how to use them.
Most of these extinguishers are only serving as decorations rather than the purpose for which they hang around, he observed.
