The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) is set to repair the faulty cables which plunged at least 70% of Ghana into total darkness Wednesday night.
GRIDCo says it has identified the cable which developed the fault, noting its engineers will from Friday patrol the lines to fix the faulted portion.
A power surge at about 7:40pm Wednesday night caused many generators of GRIDCo to be lost leading to a near nationwide power outage Power was restored to most parts of the country by midday Thursday and investigation into the cause has revealed cable fault, GRIDCo told Onua FM Thursday evening.
Director of Systems Operations for GRIDCo, Mark Baah, said on Ghana Dadwene that “we shall patrol the lines to identify the faulted portion tomorrow [Friday]. “It was a system wide disturbance so some cables developed a fault and we have identified that portion so that repair works will be done” he said.
Mr. Baah explained the faulted cable has been isolated but those who benefit directly from that line have been supplied with power using the other line [one of two] on that stretch.
