A Senior Law Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Adusei Poku is expected to head a committee constituted by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to undertake an independent review of the 2016 elections.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, the acting General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu said, the ten-member committee is mandated to “provide a detailed and honest analysis of 2016 elections country wide on structures and operations at all levels; produce a clear, concise, but detailed report to form basis for the party’s campaign to win 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections, i.e. a strategy for 2020 elections; and provide objective review of the current state of the party.”
He also added that the committee has been given 6 weeks to submit its report to the leadership of the party through the General Secretary.
The NPP and its flag bearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo beat the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flag bearer, John Mahama, in the 2016 polls.
Nana Akufo-Addo polled 53.85% of the total valid votes cast while Mahama managed 44.40%.
The NDC already has a committee in place to look into why the party lost the 2016 polls, and what could be done going forward to ensure their return to government.
It is being chaired by a Former Minister of Finance and Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Kwesi Botchwey.
