The Chinese woman is being unfairly treated, and Ghanaians seem to be applauding and encouraging the glaring injustice. We are always quick to accuse whites of being racists, and yet here we are displaying what appears to be the worse form of racial abuse. We are, by our actions, showing the world how xenophobic we are; thus, I do not expect any Ghanaian to complain of xenophobia in South Africa or any other country for that matter. I hope that we must accept any treatment meted our to our compatriots who are domiciled outside without claiming injustice. As for the judge who is sitting on the case, the least said about him, the better. I believe that he judge, like most of our incompetent, corrupt and biased judges, acted that way not because that is the right thing to do, but because he is just playing to the gallery to please the noise-makers in the fight against galamsey. May God have mercy on our country.

Good piece.Let me also state that we have gone through levels of development since we became a unitary state called Ghana.Beyond the colonail times,we have had military rule and we are now in a stable democratic civilian rule.Every dispensation and the type of governance that goes with it.No matter how bad colonialism was, what i know is that they gave us standard best practice in doing things. They set up schools and other industries with rules and regulations. We as a nation were doing artisanal mining b/f the Chinese influx into the country. However becuase we are selfish and lawless the Chinese have taking advantage of our loose system and are doing things in an informal way.
Again there is an army of skilled and unskilled mine workers who overtime have been layed off becuase some mines have been closed.
To add up to what u have already said i will say if the Chinese nation is interested in doing large scale mining they should formalise their business through bilateral agreement with government and come in offically like the Newmont's etc and do the business.Last but not the least the time has come for us to do away with politics and allow this nation to work otherwise we are doomed as a nation.God bless the motherland.

This is not a case of Xenophobia. Stop using the word loosely. Your piece has no indication of racial intolerance. in fact, Ghanaians are more tolerance to foreigners. This case shows Nationalism; it is about time we unveil the cracks in our official responsibilities. If it takes this Asian woman to assess our failures so be it.
If this woman can create the mess that has cause this CONCERN it definitely reveal how vulnerable our National Security is at risk. If she can use public officials in high positions to support her activities it definitely demonstrate how greedy, disloyal and more dangerous our officials do not understand National Security.
She was given access to the country and she abused it. Crooks use open weak links in a Government system to Steal. Thus Clandestine activity. She is no different in this regard. At this point Ghanaians are right. All the subjects involved in her back door operations should be brought to justice if the investigation is conducted impartially.
This case is more about improving the legal system which is what I think you are expressing in this case.

What is xenophobic about this matter? And by the way, why will the chinese descend on Ghana and weld such power in our socio-economic life? They are convicts just dumped on 3rd world countries in the name of some funky "aid" and they have their ghanaian collaborators to boot. Why will a chinese be driving taxi in Accra. Is that what that idiot claimed on his visa application? This is not about sexism or homophobic stuff. These are real and present danger in Ghana. So stop giving it an abstruse intepretation.

The bleeding heart Mavis believes the treatment meted to Asia Haung is xenophobic gesticulation, whatever she means by that expression.
What sister Mavis fails to understand is the propensity of blacks to collude with foreigners to destroy our own. This happened in the slave trade era when our forebears colluded with Arabs and European slave traders and sold our strong men and women to these barbarians.
Fast forward to the 20th century. When the IMF conditionalities forced the hand of JJ Rawling to dispose of Dr. Nkrumah's state-owned enterprises (SOEs), who did Rawlings sell over 300 Nkrumah's SOEs to? He sold over 85 to 90% to foreigners (British, French, Lebanese, Syrians, Norwegians, etc.) Today Ghana's corporate boardrooms are full of white faces. The remaining 10 to 15% of Nkrumah's SOEs was sold to his NDC members. Go figure!
What did JA Kufuor's NPP do when the party came to power in 2000? DITTO!!! Ghana's marquee Ashanti Goldfields Ltd., a company that had seen worst years in its 100 years in existence and had always been protected by previous governments such as Nkrumah's CPP, Ankrah's NLC military junta, JJ Rawlings' PNDC. In fact, it was Rawlings who bailed out Ashanti Goldfields Ltd in 1983 by securing a loan of $144 million from the IMF when gold prices were so depressed and the company was about to fold. It is the same Rawlings who gave Ashanti Goldfields Ltd. its first Ghanaian CEO, Sam Jonah.
When gold prices were so depressed just as in 1983 and Ashanti Goldfields Ltd. made bad gold derivative investments in hedging, which almost sunk the company, what did JA Kufuor do in 2003? This was the first Ghanaian company that was ever listed on both London and New York stock exchanges - with its shares trading all over the world. Thus a company from Ghana headed by a Ghanaian CEO. No African company has ever come close! Ashanti Goldfields Ltd. had been Ghana's main foreign exchange earner for years. Yet JA Kofi Diawuo Kufuor broke with tradition of saving the company, and instead painfully sold Ashanti Goldfields Ltd. to British Anglogold for a mere $1.4 billion, and went on to Buckingham Palace to have tea with the Queen of England. He went on to close his perfidious act by selling also Ghana Telecom to another British company Vodafone.
We Ghanaians love foreigners more than ourselves.
This is who we are as a people, and my sister Mavis should be exhilarated that now the Ghanaian has changed its attitude toward foreigners who come into our country to destroy our eco systems. We are now using our heads, and I wonder if the bleeding heart sister Mavis could go to China and flout their laws with or without the connivance of the locals. Think, my sister, think. The slave trade era where we became infatuated with the Arabs and Europeans are gone for good! We are now using our heads.
You are perfectly on the point.
