Foster care, adoption to undergo major reforms – Gender Minister

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djabah has stated that major reforms will be made in Ghana’s foster care and adoption processes.

The reforms according to her, will ensure that children placed under foster care and adoption have their rights safeguarded and protected from harm.

She disclosed this at a workshop organized by the Department of Social Welfare to brief staff, stakeholders and NGOs on the reforms within the foster care and adoption process.

The Gender Minister warned individuals and groups involved in dubious ways of adoptions to quit or face the full rigors of the law when caught.

Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba was of the firm belief that the workshop will afford participants the opportunity to have in depth knowledge on best practices in foster care and adoption.

The workshop was facilitated by representatives of international NGOs from South and South East Asia, Philippines, other local non-governmental organizations and supported by Holt International. They shared experiences of issues with foster care and Adoption system in their country.
