The Denkyira Traditional Council has directed all residents to be clad in black on Sunday, June 4 as chiefs pray to pacify the gods over the murder of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama.
As a result, Sunday, June 4 has been declared a mourning day for all residents. Denkyira-Obuasi has been on the lips of all as it is the town where Captain Mahama was lynched and his body partially burnt.
The town is under a quasi-lockdown as the police collaborate with the military to fish out persons involved in the lynching of the senior military officer.
Captain Mahama was the Commander of a military detachment at Denkyira-Obuasi and was a member of the 5th Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces.
His lynching has attracted public sympathy with many calling for justice not only for him but also for his family.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, the chiefs of Denkyira condemned the act and lent support for ongoing investigations being conducted by the security agencies.
Spokesperson Nana Ntiri Twum Barimah II, the Krontihene of Denkyira, said chiefs will gather at the Palace of the Paramount Chief on Sunday to pour libations to the gods.
He said the killing of Captain Mahama is shedding innocent blood and that may incur the wrath of the gods.
