The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has launched a competition aimed at fostering civic education among Ghanaian students.

The maiden NCCE Cowbell 2017 Constitution Quiz was launched at Cosmos Junior High School in the Ga Central Municipal Assembly.

Deputy Chairman in charge of operations at the NCCE, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, stated that the introduction of the competition for school children will deepen responsible citizenship.

“This initiative by the Ga Central Municipal office of the NCCE is to enable pupils to study the constitution so that they will know the law to grow up to become responsible citizens and also enable them to actively participate in the political process in the country”.

The 2017 Constitution Quiz programme which mainly targets school children aims at encouraging the youth to acquire civic knowledge and instill in them attitudes for good citizenship.

Brands Manager for Cowbell, headline sponsor of the programme, Joseph Ashong, said the partnership with NCCE is one of the strategies that will ensure children are well informed on the Constitution.

“As a brand that promotes good education and helps in the development of the mind, we want to educate school children on our constitution to ensure that we have a peaceful country”.

The maiden contest held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 was staged among four schools in the Ga Central Municipal Assembly namely, Living Spring Junior School, Prima Junior School, Cosmos Junior High School and Rhema Junior High School.

Competing students were questioned about some of the provisions of the 1992 Constitution and also general knowledge questions on local governance and by-laws.

At the end of the competition, Living Spring and Prima Junior high school emerged winners; Cosmos and Rhema were 3rd and 4th runners up respectively.
