Former President John Rawlings
Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, a noted journalist and the editor-in-chief of The New Crusading Guide newspaper has condemned Former President Rawlings’ speech on corruption.
Kweku Baako fumed at the former president’s take on the apparent corruption and greed that is rife in the National Democratic Congress.
According to the seasoned journalist, Jerry Rawlings has no moral high ground on which to criticize others about behaviors centering on corruption.
“He is very hypocritical politically and he is the last person that Ghanaians should listen to preaching sermons of corruption…taking corruption lectures from Rawlings is equal to going to a brothel to take lessons on morality,” Kweku Baako said on Peace FM on Wednesday.
The known political commentator’s comments follow the recent speech presented by the former president at this year’s celebration of the June 4, 1979 revolution.
Former President Rawlings had bemoaned the saturation of corrupt activities in the National Democratic Congress, which he added caused the party’s defeat in 2016. “And if we are unable to restore a fair measure of integrity into our dealings, then the blood of many would have been shared in vain. If we cannot get our clothes off and allow for fresh leadership to emerge then we shall sink even further,” Rawlings added.
But responding to the former president’s words, Kweku Baako scoffed at his statements condemning greed and corruption, and asked whether the former president had been accountable for his actions during his AFRC era.
He added that the former president had refused to respond to calls for his explanation for what he did with state funds during the Limann administration. Meanwhile, the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has been described as the most corrupt woman in Ghana.
According to the editor-in-chief of the Al-Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Bature Iddrisu, Nana Konadu Rawlings is in court over charges of her alleged corrupt activities.
He dared her to refute his claims, stating she misappropriated funds meant for the 31st December Movement's projects and she was allegedly afraid President Akufo-Addo would reopen the investigations into those charges.
