Heartless Akufo-Addo making merry as country mourns Major Mahama - Koku Anyidoho

A deputy general secretary of the largest opposition party, NDC, has lashed out at President Akufo-Addo for not being present for the burial of the late Major Mahama

Koku Anyidoho did not mince words in expressing his disappointment at the fact that the President who happens to be the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces missed the burial of a fellow soldier under him.

The outspoken deputy general secretary revealed that the president had misplaced priorities as he busied himself with embarking on funfair trips abroad as the country mourned a fallen hero.

He also alleged that the President engaged in dubious transactions during his funfair trips out of the country as the nation mourned the gruesome murder of Major Mahama.

He suggested that the act of the president was heartless and unacceptable.

“For the first time a serving military officer has been murdered in cold blood, lynched and his body torched, in a democratic dispensation and the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces is nowhere to be found. He is junketing abroad having fun, filling his pockets with fat per diem, sleeping in luxurious hotels with his family, friends and cronies” he emphasized.

Late Maxwell Adam Mahama was lynched on May 29th 2017 in Denkyira Obuase, a town in the Upper Denkyira West district of the Central Region.

He was mistaken to be an armed robber after a resident spotted a gun on him.

Late Mahama, who at the time of his gruesome murder was a Captain, was posthumously promoted to the rank of a Major by President Akufo-Addo.

So far, more than 50people are in the grips of the Police for alleged involvement in the lynching of late Major Mahama with some of the suspects already arraigned before a Court.

Speaking exclusively to www.ghanaweb.com, Koku Anyidoho also charged the President to put his foot down and take country of the governance of the country.

He attributed the numerous cases of lawlessness and chaos recorded in the country to the president’s inability to govern more than 5 months after being handed over power.

He reiterated that “we have gone past the transition. There’s a government in place and so all the lawlessness, all the brigandry, the president must carry it”

The NDC is marking its 25th anniversary as a political party under the 4th republic with a yearlong series of activities including a rally it held at Ashiaman on 10th June 2017.

The deputy General Secretary hinted of certain plans the opposition party has up its sleeves and wished the president returned quickly to the country to experience the sting.

“He will come and meet us in Ghana, we are waiting for him” he noted.
