After winning the first edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz competition organised in 1994, Prempeh College emerged victorious for the fourth time in the 2017 edition.

They defeated St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School and Adisadel College in the finals held at the National Theatre in Accra.

St. Thomas Aquinas, arguably the 'surprise package' for the tournament defeated some ‘big name’ schools like Presbyterian Boys High School, Legon.

The Old Toms made it to the grand finale on Thursday after a jolly ride contest that saw them defeat Legon Presec with a 27point gap.

Aquinas’ fairy tale in this years’ contest however ended in an agonising defeat to competition winners Prempeh College by 2 points.

Headmaster of St. Thomas Aquinas refuted the notion that the boys were disappointed after the tournament.

Cyril Dadey insisted that his boys were adequately prepped and ready to accept the outcome of the contest.

He emphasised the winning spirit of the Old Toms and stated that they are exceptionally pleased with their achievement, adding that are ready for the challenge next year.

The students confirmed the Headmaster's assertions, downplaying the negative impact of the loss.

They noted that they are proud to be the only Day School in the Region and the country to reach the finals of this years’ National Science and Maths Quiz.

They blamed their loss on the pressure and nervy nature of the finale

The one-time winners of the competition expressed their enthusiasm and joy with a special rendition of their popular mantra “God is an Old Tom”
