Young and successful Ghanaians whose deaths shook the nation

Last month, the death of Major Maxwell Mahama, an officer of the Ghana army, shook the nation.

The brutal circumstances that led to his death scarred the conscience of the nation and sparked a campaign against mob violence.

The fact that he was a 32-year-old man with a young wife and two children made his death more difficult to take.

Apart from Major Mahama, here are other young and successful Ghanaians whose death left the nation in tears.

2. Komla Dumor

Komla Dumor was a BBC broadcaster who was widely known and revered across Africa and the world.

The former Joy FM morning show host died of cardiac arrest in London on January 18, 2014. He was 41.

His unexpected death was deemed a national disaster.



3. Theophilus Tagoe (Castro)



Castro is a popular hiplife musician who went missing at Ada in July 2014.

Castro was on a weekend trip with Asamoah Gyan and friends when he went missing with a female friend, Janet Bandu, while cruising on a jet ski on the Volta River.

The disappearance of the "Toffee" and "Boneshaker" hitmaker has been met with deep sorrow and pain by many Ghanaians.

It is important to state that Castro has not been declared dead by the authorities.

4. Terry Adjetey Bonchaka



Terry Bonchaka was rising hiplife star who died in accident while heading home after a musical performance at the University of Ghana in 2003.

The death of the 21-year-old former Adisadel College student marked a sad moment in the history of the nation.

5. Suzzy Williams



Suzzy Williams was a star actress who died in an accident in September 2008. She was 23.

6. Fennec Okyere



Fennec Okyere was a music producer, who managed Kwaw Kesse and other talented musicians.

He was shot dead in his home in March 2014.

7. Kwame Owusu Ansah



He was a popular actor who died after he was involved in an accident on the Accra-Tema Motorway in 2008.

The actor was taken to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries.
