Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba has entreated Ghanaians leaving abroad to help export the products of some women who have received various forms of training and start-up capital from the ministry.
She said, this will “bring a lot of relief to both the woman and her family and we anticipate that their businesses will grow faster for them to also to empower other women in their communities”.
She added that “it will be a great honour to have you complementing our efforts to help the less privileged have a worthy life” as some of the women who have been trained find it difficult to transfer their skills into capital gains.
In addition to this, the minister stated that “a clear alternative approach to promoting sustainable and equitable economic development for women needs” must be developed and her ministry is making the efforts to get the affirmative action gender equality law passed this year.
She stated that women faced a lot of challenges that make them vulnerable in both the political and economic environment but some have been able to overcome those challenges adding that Ghana's economy cannot thrive without women.
She urged Ghanaians in the diaspora to raise their children with an understanding of the uniqueness of being a Ghanaian.
