Job 600
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has set up an enquiry into Tuesday’s fire outbreak at Job 600, Prince Billy Anaglate, its Director of Public Affairs, has said.
The building, which serves as offices for Members of Parliament and their staff, was gutted by fire on the 10th floor of its East Wing, a blaze believed to have started from a faulty gadget in one of the offices.
The fire was subsequently put out, although some items were destroyed.
In an interview with Chief Jerry Forson on Accra FM’s Ghana Yensom the morning after the fire, Mr Anaglate confirmed the initial finding that the cause of the fire was electrical but said a committee had been set up to conduct a full investigation to establish what led to the inferno.
“When we finally located the fire at the 10th floor of the Job 600, we looked at the situation…we initiated our preliminary investigations, then we saw that it was [caused by] electrical gadgets – a printer and a photocopier, [these] were where the fire started from. So the Fire Service has gone ahead to constitute a three-man technical committee to reassess and to determine what exactly might be the cause,” he disclosed.
“Our preliminary investigation actually pointed to an electrical [fault] but until the three-man committee which has continued its investigations even to this morning and are assessing to determine what exactly caused it, we will be able to wait till they come out from their investigations and tell us the exact thing that happened. Just that our preliminary investigations pointed to electrical origin.”
Mr Anaglate admitted that the GNFS had a “challenge in accessing the [Job 600] premises through the frontage” as their tenders could not find a way through, needing to get into the building through the back.
