The governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) has called on the National Security and Inspector General of Police (IGP) to as a matter of urgency, invite opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman, Kofi Portuphy for claiming that NPP thugs are behind the murder of a policeman who was killed at Lapaz last week.

Mr Portupy at a press conference in Accra Thursday said “Very credible intelligence reaching us has it that a lot of the armed robbery and killing of our hardworking police officers is being done by militant goons associated with the NPP.”

According to him, the “nervous” government of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has turned the “peaceful” Ghana bequeathed to them by the Mahama administration into “a pool of blood” in just six months after taking office.

But reacting to the NDC’s allegations in an interview with Kasapa News, the Acting Communications Director of the NPP, Yaw Adomako Baafi, stated that once Mr Portuphy claims he has valuable information on who murdered the policeman, the IGP and his men should not look far in looking for clues leading to the arrest of the two armed robbers who killed the cop.

“He’s claiming that the NPP is behind the killing of the policeman, if he’s a law abiding person he should not even wait for the police to invite him, he should volunteer this information to the security agency. We’re all saddened by the death of the policeman who was killed while doing his lawful duties. Portuphy knows where the suspects are, so the IGP must not waste time in inviting him to assist in investigations leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.”

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has urged members of the public to divulge information that will lead to the arrest of two killers of a policeman who was shot in broad daylight at Abeka Lapaz in Accra.

COP Ransford Ninson, Commissioner in charge of Welfare, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police sympathised with the wife and family of the deceased after he presented drinks to the family in support of the one week memorial of the late cop.

The Police Administration has offered a GHC10,000 bounty for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the killers.
