Bernard Antwi Boasiako said the EC boss appointment was fraudulent
The Ashanti Regional of the ruling New Patriotic Party has thrown a serious allegation at John Dramani Mahama, the former president of Ghana in the appointment of the current chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has alleged that John Mahama appointed Charlotte Osei in a bid to "rig" the 2016 General Elections.
"From what is going on at the Electoral Commission, I can conclude that Mrs. Charlotte Osei was appointed by John Dramani Mahama to destroy Ghana”, Chairman Wontumi alleged.
Currently, the Electoral Commission of Ghana is embroiled in a scandal that threatens to mar the integrity of the commission. The current chair of the commission, Charlotte Osei is at the center of a scandalous petition that seeks to remove her as the chair of commission.
Some employees of the commission, fronted by a popular Ghanaian lawyer presented the petition to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the commissioner was called to parliament on the issue. Wontumi stated on NEAT FM’s morning show, "Ghana Montie", that he always doubted the integrity of Charlotte Osei.
According to him, her appointment by the then-President John Mahama was fraudulent and she should "resign honorably before she’s forced to". "People like us will mount pressure on her to resign", he said with resolve.
