Former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, under the NDC government, Joseph Yammin has charged the Vanguard anti Galamsey task force to operate with professionalism and avoid killing civilians.

The Operation vanguard joint, an Anti-Galamsey task force on Sunday killed one person suspected to be an illegal miner at ‘Anyimadukurom’ in the Obuasi municipality in Ashanti Region.

Speaking on Angel FM with Kwame Tanko, the former Deputy Sports Minister, Joseph Yammin who once claimed to have lost his job as the head of the Anti-Galamsey committee and also as the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister for fighting illegal mining noted the personnel acted without professionalism.

According to him, the actions of the personnel could also be a revenge for the late Major Maxwell Mahama who was lynched at Denkyira Obuasi.

“Ghana is indeed sitting on a time bomb. Calamity is bound to befall the nation other than a reasonable solution looking at the approach used by the NPP in fighting Galamsey. The minister of defense should be blamed for the actions of the task force. He motivated them to shoot and kill. He even warned Ghanaians not to dare those personnel. The military acted unprofessionally. The backdrop is also from Denkyira Obuasi. They are not at peace with the death of their colleague Major Mahama but let me tell, all these are due to the assurances they were given before the operation.” Yammin said.

Let us assume without admitting that the young man was an illegal miner, was he to be arrested or killed? Yammin quizzed.
