Elmina, May 1, GNA - The Reverend Father John Christian Essel, of the Catholic Parish in Elmina, on Saturday deplored the practice whereby many Ghanaians, prefer to make huge donations at funerals, instead of using such monies to provide care and support for the aged and the needy in society.
He pointed out that such people, go through "agonising periods" and need to be comforted and supported materially and financially. Rev. Essel, who expressed these sentiments when he delivered a sermon at a burial service, in this regard, told Christians, especially that Christian principles express the need for charity and care for both the aged and sick persons for their inspiration and well-being.
According to him, showing love for the dead, was a "serious indictment" which every Christian must run away from and strive to assist those in need however, small the contribution is.
"If after death you go and show your love which the dead will not benefit then Jesus will say, "when I was sick you did not visit me and when I was in need you did not provide me with food", Rev. Essel cautioned the congregation.
