Deputy Attorney General, Joseph Kpemka has revealed that public officials who engaged in corrupt practices during the Mahama-led administration will be prosecuted. ?According to him, all officials found to be guilty will be put before court and prosecuted.
He revealed that the current government – led by President Akufo-Addo – is already putting evidences together against corrupt officials of the erstwhile administration.
Speaking on Citi FM’s current affairs programme, Eyewitness News, the deputy Attorney General disclosed that the next two months will be crucial in government fight against corruption.
“By October when we start moving to court with some of the cases, Ghanaians will know that we are serious and we are ready to fight corruption as a canker in this country and uproot it once and for all,” he said.
He added that government will not “go to court unprepared”, clarifying that the move is strictly to fight corruption, and not a witch-hunting exercise. ?He assured that government will take “into consideration the rights of the individuals involved”, stressing government is “not prepared in the least to embarrass ourselves in any court in Ghana.”
He further revealed that certain officials have already been invited by the Police, Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Bureau for National Investigations (BNI) and other anti-corruption state agencies.
The deputy Attorney General’s comments are in line with a campaign promise made by president Akufo-Addo during the election period.
