Fire Destroys KGM Industry

A very devastating fire gutted KGM industry, a plastic manufacturing company on the Spintex Road in Accra, on Saturday, May 1. The fire, which started before noon, destroyed property, including industrial machines and raw materials worth several millions of cedis.

According to the general manager of the company, Mr. B.R. Menon, he was in his office when his attention was drawn to a think smoke emanating from two of the factory?s sheds. He said, quickly, they called the Fire Service whose timely arrival saved the factory from total destruction.

Mr. Menon said the cause of the fire could not be known immediately and that the management was taking in the whole situation to assess the damage caused. Mr. S. A. Yankey, the assistant chief fire officer, who led a team of fire personnel to the scene, said their job was made easier due to several fire hydrants that had been installed at the factory?s premises.

He said even though the fire was devastating, it took his men about five hours to bring it under control.
