Odumase-Krobo (Eastern Region) 6th April ?99 - The Odumase- Krobo circuit court last Thursday granted bail of two million cedis with one surety to be justified respectively, to the chief of Brekuso, Nana Oteng Korankye, and four others.
The Brekusuhene and the four accused persons are before the court for various offences involving the stealing of the black stool of the Asuna Royal Family of Brekuso near Aburi. The first accused Edward Akotua was charged with stealing, Nicholas Kweku Martey the second accused was charged with abetment of crime while the third accused Akosua Obena was charged with dishonestly receiving the black stool of the Asuna Royal Family of Brekusu. Nana Abena Djanwaa, Queenmother of the Brekusu Asuna Royal family and the chief of Brekusu who are the fourth and fifth accused persons respectively in the case, are charged with dishonestly receiving.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges, and will re-appear on April 16. The case against the accused is that in June 1998, Akotua went and threatened his mother Nana Akosua Oye, who is the complainant with a cutlass in her house. Nana Oye managed to escape from the house and travelled to Accra to report the conduct of the son to her brother. In her absence, Akotua in the company of Martey broke into the room of Nana Oye and stole the Black stool of the Asuna Royal Family of Brekusu, which had officially been in the care of Nana Oye for over 16 years. Akotua and Martey took the stool to Obena to keep. Later Obena, directed the two to take the stool to Nana Abena Djanwaa, who also asked them to send it to the chief of Brekuso for safe-keeping.
