The Bui Power Authority (BPA) has released an amount of GH¢42,276.92 to be distributed to some five farmers whose crops have been affected by the authority’s Solar expansion Project in the Bole District of the Northern Region.
The five persons happen to be farming on the 1000 acre parcel of land that has been acquired by the BPA for its solar expansion project at Carpenter in Bole District.
According to a statement issued and signed by Chief Executive Officer of the BPA, Mr. Fred Oware, after a joint inspection by the BPA and the Land Valuation Division to enumerate and value properties of occupants of the land, it was ascertained that the five farmers were affected by the project, hence the need to compensate them.
“BPA collaborated with the Land Valuation Division to enumerate economic assets that were located within the 1000 acre parcel of land earmarked for the solar project,” the statement suggests.
The statement adds that the payment will be done through the Land Valuation Division of Lands Commission on Tuesday August 29, 2017.
The project, however, according to the statement will kick-start only after compensations have been paid to the beneficiaries.

The Bui Power Authority (BPA) has started processes towards the setting up of a 250 megawatt solar plant to boost grid power supply.
The Hydroelectric Power Project was inaugurated in December 2013 and it is one of the three main hydroelectric power plants in the country.
The 400-megawatt capacity dam lies on the Black Volta River at the Bui Gorge in the Brong Ahafo Region and has been backing up power supply during peak periods.
