The former first lady and President of the 31st December Women?s Movement (DWM), Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, has dismissed claims by some members of the public and economists that the nation is experiencing an economic boom.
According to her, such claims do not make economic sense, nor are they logical. She asked where the logic was in the claim that things were alright and that the nation was progressing when prices of commodities, including cement, had shot up so badly that it had become difficult to purchase them.
It really surprises me when, during phone-in programmes on the radio stations, people call and claim that the economy has improved, she stated. The former first lady expressed regret that the rate and level at which lies were being told in the country had resulted in the public believing in falsehood instead of the truth.
She said the situation was so serious that even leaders or elderly people who are expected to come out with the truth are themselves lying, to such an extent that now people have closed their minds to the truth. Nana Konadu noted that she never used her position as the first lady to her personal advantage or any particular interest but for the benefit of women in society generally, saying, ?I made good use of my position by helping women in the country, by training them in income-generating ventures, skills and vocations.
Mrs. Benyiwa Doe, the MP for Gomoa West, accused the NPP government of spreading falsehood about the performance of the NDC government remarking that the same NPP claimed it was continuing the work of the NDC.
Mrs. Doe advised the people not to allow themselves to be intimidated by anyone but rather wake up and examine themselves well before casting their votes.
