Akaboha in more trouble

Fri, 11 Jun 2004 Source: Chronicle

It seems the trouble that has entangled Prophet Miritaiah Jonah Jehu-Appiah leading to his suspension in 2002 as the AKABOHA, (General Leader and the Head Prophet) of the Musama Disco Christo Church (MDCC) by the church leadership, is getting compounded. The Chronicle newspaper has gathered that the Chief Justice, Justice Kinsley Acquah, has directed the Prophet to make his application for the transfer of a case brought against him by the church leadership at the Agona Swedru High Court, at an open court.

Prophet Jehu-Appiah, who had been dragged to the High Court for alleged acts of indiscipline, in 18 August 2003, petitioned the Chief Justice calling for the transfer of his case from the court.

In his petition, Propjet Jehu-Appiah accused the judge, Justice Senyo Dzemefe, of allowing himself to be induced by dishonourable consideration.

But when the Chief Justice directed him to make his application for transfer and the allegations against the Judge in open court, the Prophet could not substantiate his claim.

The Chronicle gathered that last 19 April, some members of the church wrote to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, pleading for his intervention to settle the differences between him and the leadership of the Church.

The Attorney General?s office was said to have written to the group acknowledging the need for peace in the MDDC but said the matter could be settled without the involvement of the AG.

The Prophet?s supporters, it is learnt, have now turned to the Ghana Pentecostal Council (GPC) for help. On 29 May this year, GPC wrote to the solicitor of the leadership of the Church, announcing the decision by the council to intervene.

The GPC?s letter signed by its president, Apostle Dr. M.K Ntumy, said: ?It has come to my attention and that of the GPC concerning the rift that is developing in the church, which has the potential of fracturing MDCC, a church of great historic significance in Ghana.?

The GPC therefore announced its desire to seek an amicable solution to the case.

A few months ago the Central Regional Security Council intervened to avert a looming clash between the supporters of the Akaboha and the church leadership when the supporters of the former planned to re-instate him.
