Ketan, (W/R) June 11, GNA - Dr Josiah Aryeh, National General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Friday said the Party was determined to run the country's fortunes for the better if it won Election 2004.

He was speaking at a day's seminar organised by the Party and the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) at Ketan, near Sekondi for NDC functionaries and activists.

Dr Aryeh said the Government had left the country worse off than at the time of the NDC Government. He said: "What is even worrying is the tendency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government to get money anywhere and at all cost for political gains".

He said the NPP was practising the politics of personalities and insults and had no regard for the poor.

Dr Aryeh urged Ghanaians to vote the NDC into power for the sake of democracy, good governance and national cohesion.

Dr Kwesi Jonah, Head of the Governance Section and Coordinator of the Political Parties Programme of IEA, said the political parties programme was being funded by a Netherlands nongovernmental organisation and Institute of Multi-Party Democracy (IMD).

He said the IEA and IMD were providing funds for only NDC, NPP, People's National Convention (PNC) and Convention People's Party (CPP) because these parties had members in Parliament.

Dr Jonah said the main objectives of the IEA was to strengthen their institutional capacity, level the playing ground and assist them to improve their public image.

He urged the parties to make effective use of the money by organising seminars and training programmes for their members.
