Majority of Ghanaians are demanding that the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as a matter of urgency, sack Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, George Ayisi-Boateng over his discriminatory utterances.

Mr. Ayisi-Boateng has come under heavy flak following his declaration that he will give priority to the needs of members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) before any other Ghanaian.

He emphatically posited that as a diplomat, addressing the problems of his party members in South Africa is his primary responsibility.

“This government is doing its best to create job opportunities and me for instance, I told my people over there [that], it is because of NPP that I’m here, and so the NPP man is my priority. I told them when NDC was in power it was Kwesi Ahwoi who was there, now we are in power, so Ayisi-Boateng is here with you. My topmost priority is the problems of an NPP person before any other Ghanaian, take it or leave it,” he said.

Some Ghanaians who spoke to Ghanaweb.com in relation to the issue have described his utterances as senseless and undiplomatic, therefore the need for him to be sacked by the President.

According to them, the High Commissioner’s statements were divisive and could disrupt the peace of the country by creating disunity among citizens.

They said, Mr. Ayisi-Boateng’s statements suggest non-members of the NPP are not Ghanaians which is a very worrying position to take as a diplomat.

“What about us? We are not Ghanaians because we do not belong to the NPP?” some of the interviewees queried.

While some of the general public are demanding for Mr. Ayisi-Boateng’s immediate dismissal, some are also sympathising with him.

They want him to show remorse and render unqualified apology for uttering such distasteful comments.
