Immediate past Board Chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Daniel Ohene Agyekum has dared the Akufo-Addo led-government to prosecute him if it’s convinced he’s willfully caused financial loss to the state and stop persecuting him through the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).

According to the former Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada, he’s ready to battle whoever is appointed the Special Prosecutor in court to clear his hard earned reputation.

Mr Ohene Agyekum after exiting power as the Board Chairman of COCOBOD, which is one of Ghana’s important state institutions, has found himself in trouble after EOCO froze his bank accounts in March 2017, as it commenced investigations into some suspicious dealings at the COCOBOD.

He was first invited to assist EOCO in its investigations into alleged financial maladministration in COCOBOD but after several questioning sessions he was later charged with causing financial loss to the state.

Mr Ohene Agyekum was reportedly also questioned about the renovation of the residence of the Chief Executive of the COCOBOD and the award of contracts for what has come to be known as cocoa roads. He has maintained his innocence saying he did nothing untoward while in offfice.

Speaking exclusively to Kasapa FM’s Akwasi Nsiah on recent allegations of wrongdoing leveled against his regime by the current COCOBOD CEO, Mr Ohene Agyekum who believes he’s being victimized by the Akufo Addo administration said he’s had enough of harassment and wants to have his day in court.

“I was only a Board Chairman at COCOBOD, this is the first time in the history of Ghana that a Board Chairman has been arraigned before EOCO and charged with causing financial loss to the state. I’m not a spending officer and I don’t authorize payments, I authorize the award of contracts but when it comes to payment it’s the duty of management. Secondly I’m not a signatory to any of COCOBOD’s accounts so I don’t sign cheques.”

He added:“I was not the Chief Executive so which money have I paid or authorized to be paid that constitutes willfully causing financial loss to the state?…there’s none, the truth will stand. We followed the rules and regulations governing the Board’s function. I’m convinced that I’ve done no wrong. They talk about the Special Prosecutor, I want to meet that person in court, Ghanaians will know the truth when we have our day in court.”
