The Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin has described as false a claim by former President John Dramani Mahama that the embattled Ghana’s Ambassador to South Africa H. E. George Ayisi Boateng was summoned to the presidency and made to sign an already written apology letter.

He explained that H.E. George Ayisi Boateng was not summoned to the presidency neither was he given an apology letter to append his signature to it.

The former President who was addressing members of the opposition National Democratic Congress at the party’s third unity walk in Cape Coast claimed that H.E. George Ayisi Boateng was summoned to the presidency and made to sign an already written apology letter following his distasteful comment, which was widely condemned by many Ghanaians.

“If you read the apology letter, it’s an apology of an apology letter. He said ‘I apologise for the effect of my words, not ‘I apologise for my words’, ‘I apologise for the effect of my words’. That is the new government under which we are,” John Mahama said.

But speaking on Oman FM’s political analysis programme “Boiling Point” Eugene Arhin accused former President Mahama for engaging in what he described as propaganda.

“The last time Mr Ayisi Boateng came to the Presidency was when he was sworn in. And so instead of the former president to have cross checked this he decided to engage in propaganda,” he stated.

He,thus, challenged the former president to back his claim with evidence.

He insisted that H.E. George Ayisi Boateng wrote the apology letter himself and not the presidency.

“Mr George Ayisi Boateng wrote the apology letter under his own volition. Nobody forced him. He copied the Presidency and the Foreign Affairs Minister.I saw the apology letter for the first time in my email account,” Eugene Arhin stressed.
