Govt insensitive to corruption charges against functionaries

Ziope (V/R), June 20, GNA - Mr Modestus Ahiable, Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has lashed at the Government for its disinclination to act in proven cases of corruption against its functionaries.

Mr Ahiable, who was speaking at the Party's Ho-East Delegates' Congress at Ziope, expressed misgivings about the fusion of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) activities with those of the New Patriotic Party in the Volta Region.

He alleged that the practice in the region was for relief items to be presented to communities as gift from the NPP.

Mr Ahiable criticised what he described as NPP's trait of using ethnicity, as a yardstick to determine whom among public servants should have his or her appointment terminated, transferred, shifted or employed.

Mr Ludwig Hlodze, Deputy National Youth Organiser, advised the rank and file of the Party that the coming elections were crucial and called for commitment to the cause of the Party.

Mr Michael Gamor, Constituency Chairman, asked supporters to be wary of attempts by the NPP to divide their ranks.

Mrs Juliana Azumah-Mensah, 54, a Nurse Administrator and Social Worker at the Catholic Secretariat in Ho, was selected by consensus and endorsed by the congress as the Ho-East NDC Parliamentary candidate for Elections 2004.
