Kwasi Kyei, Ashanti Regional Communications Director of NPP
The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwasi Kyei has stated that he and the General Secretary Sam Pyne are ready to do the Kumasi Abattoir work diligently in their capacities as appointed board members.
Sam Pyne and Mr Kyei have been trending on social media over their appointments as board members of the Kumasi Abattoir Company locally called ‘Mayanka’ which is under the Social Security National Trust (SSNIT).
A section of the NPP supporters especially those in the region have questioned why the two stalwarts of the party have been swerved of mouth-watering positions after toiling for the party to gain power.
But confirming their appointments to Kwame Adinkra on Abusua Nkommo, Mr Kyei indicated that they have accepted the opportunity to give a face lift to the Abattoir (slaughter house) which the needed attention has not been given.
He assured that they will work to ensure the safety of the Abattoir as well as the hygienic treatment of meat for consumers in the Kumasi metropolis and beyond.
The Regional Communications Director assured that carrying of meat on the shoulders of butchers around Kejetia and other markets for distribution to their customers will be a thing of the past.
He assured that the welfare of the butchers will be taken care of adding that logistics that will aide their work will be distributed to them on time.
‘Yes its true that we (Sam Pyne and I) have been appointed board members of the Kumasi Abattoir. We have accepted the appointments, we have visited the facility, we have a lawyer on the board at the appropriate time, his name will be out, we have a chairman and an accountant, the butchers have their representatives on the board as well,’he said.
Mr Kyei advised Ghanaians to be mindful of the meat and food they consume bearing in mind the health implications unhygienic meat pose to the body.
He expressed appreciation to the SSNIT Board Chairman Dr Kwame Addo Kuffuor and NPP leaders for giving them such an opportunity to serve the nation.
‘We will ensure that meat are hygienically treated, veterinary officers are qualified, packaging should be looked at. Somebody needs to do the job, and we have been chosen, I’m I greater or bigger than somebody?, there is no need to feel superior in our efforts to push Ghana forward. We will do the work diligently to promote the Kumasi Abattoir,’ he stated.
Mr Kyei disclosed that he visited the Kumasi Abattoir after receiving his appointment letter saying the country will rake in huge revenues if the Abattoir is giving the needed attention by doing away with the obsolete machines.
‘We need to use bio-gas technology to power the butchers’ ovens which will then prevent them from using car tyres in preparing the sheep, goats and cattle in order to get wholesome meat,’ he said.
Contrary to public outcry on his appointments, he intimated that he will gladly accept the opportunity to serve as Sanitation Inspector ‘Bola Man for Atonsu’ if it will push the Akufo-Addo’s agenda of changing the fortunes of the country.
He promised to help boost the cattle ranch in the Northern region.
However, Sam Pyne is yet to publicly accept or reject the appointment which was given to them at the behest of the former Defence Minister.
Mr Kyei and Mr Pyne are entitled to Two Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢200) allowance per each sitting.
They are also entitled to a weekly package of meat from the abattoir.
