The Lebanese Community has for the third time awarded scholarships to 19 dependents of soldiers of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) who fell gallantly in duty for their motherland.

In a ceremony at the Burma Hall, Burma Camp in Accra, the

Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana HE Ali Halabi said "By this awards, we hope to contribute to the future of these children who are spread across all the levels of Ghana's education system.

"Ghana's men in uniform have had their fair share, not just promoting peace and security in their motherland, but also by contributing to global peace and prosperity.”

He added “This has come of course with regrettable loss of lives in several peacekeeping fields across the world. The Lebanese community in Ghana celebrates the sacrifices of these fallen heroes.”

Defense Minister Dominic Nitiwu commended the Lebanese Community highly for the financial support for the dependants of martyrs of the Ghana Armed Forces.

He appealed to the Lebanese Community to extend same gesture to dependants of martyrs of other security services.

The Minister urged the beneficiaries to give their best shot, academically; pointing out that, it is the only way to ensure continuity of the Lebanese Community initiative.

Also in attendance was the Chief of Defence Staff Major General Obed Akwa said “We commend the Lebanese Community here in Ghana for this financial relief for the surviving children of personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces who lost their lives in peacekeeping missions.”

Ghana Armed Forces, in return presented a beautiful Kente cloth to HE Halabi and his wife.
