Former NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for Adenta Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Kojo Adu Asare has described some visiting European leaders to the country as “trumu trumu” eaters, suggesting their visits is bound to happen.

Controversy around whether or not Ghana was ready to legalize gay marriage was given a lifeline when during an interview with Al Jazeera, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said though the practice does not reflect the country’s culture, there is no advocacy for it and so not on the table.

His comments, however, were interpreted to be a subtle admission Ghana will at some point grant the Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community the window to come out from their closets and live like straight people.

Subsequent to that interview, both the French President and Queen of Denmark have visited the country to hold bilateral talks with the government.

There are reports the president of Luxembourg, married to an openly gay, will visit the country. This has prompted the former Presidential staffer’s gay comment indicating the practice is bound to happen.

Mr Adu-Asare is a keen follower of former president John Mahama who is best friends with Andrew Solomon, a wealthy American philanthropist who assisted the ex-president launch his book, My First Coup D’etate in New York. Mr Mahama is seeking to contest the 2020 elections and will need strong foot soldiers like Adu Asare to be his men on the ground.
