The African Group of Ambassadors to the United Nations says they’re “extremely appalled at and strongly condemns the outrageous racist and xenophobic remarks attributed to the president of the United States of America”

In a Press statement after an emergency session, the group demanded a retraction and apology from United States President, Donald Trump for referring to African nations as “shithole countries”

The eccentric US President has been branded a shocking and shameful racist after he in a semi-public meeting described African nations, as well as Haiti and El Salvador as “shitholes” and questioned why so many of their citizens had ever been permitted to enter America.

Mr Trump’s uncouth statement has shocked the world with US diplomats around the world being summoned for formal reproach in countries they serve.

In a strongly-worded statement, the UN said it was impossible to describe his remarks as anything other than racist, while the Vatican decried Trump’s words as “particularly harsh and offensive”.

The 55-nation African Union said the remarks were “clearly racist”.

Trump initially allowed reported accounts of his comments to go unchallenged, but went into damage limitation mode on Friday, insisting he had not used derogatory words – but admitting that the language he had used at a meeting with Senators on immigration was “tough”.

But the African Ambassadors expressed their disquiet at the “continuing and growing trend from the US administration towards Africa and people of African descent to denigrate the continent and people of colour, assuring its commitment to the values of “multilateralism, diversity and equality of nations as enshrined in the relevant African Union and UN charter and instruments.”
