Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has warned corrupt officials not to envisage seeking refuge under anyone because even President Nana Akufo-Addo will not be able to defend anyone found to be corrupt under the tenure of Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu, whose nomination is pending approval by parliament.
Dr Bawumia, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the 69th New Year School and Conference of the University of Ghana held on Monday, 15 January 2018, said government has shown the greatest commitment to fighting corruption with the appointment of the independent Special Prosecutor.
“With the appointment of Martin Amidu, the message is very clear that he [President Akufo-Addo] is very serious about dealing with this issue [corruption]. It is not a partisan issue; you can have corrupt people across the partisan divide.
“The message is that not even the President can protect you if you are corrupt,” he indicated.
Dr Bawumia is, therefore, calling for maximum support for Mr Amidu and the Office the Special Prosecutor to ensure that corruption is curtailed in the country.
