Member of Parliament for the Dome Kwabenya Constituency, Adwoa Safo has admonished Ghanaians to allay fears of insecurity and ignore what she describes as ‘propaganda’ attempts by the opposition NDC, to depict a system of lawlessness and insecurity under the ruling government.

Her comments come on the back of attacks on security personnel in the country, most recently the raiding of the Kwabenya Police station where one police officer was shot in the process.

Many have raised concerns of fear and panic, suggesting that recent events point to the fact that Ghanaians are unsafe.

Speaking to the press during her visit to the Kwabenya Police station where the unfortunate incident occurred, Miss Safo assured that government is working hard to ensure that Ghanaians are safe, stressing on the fact that contrary suggestions by opposition parties are sheer propaganda tactics.

“I want to calm all nerves, the appropriate authorities, the Interior Minister and the IGP have all assured us of our safety in the constituency and as a Member of Parliament, I want to reiterate that point, that we are all safe, government is on top of security matters in this country and we should shy away from the propaganda from the opposition that indeed we are not safe,” she stressed.

According to her, processes are also underway in parliament to ensure that the matter is dealt with and calm restored to the area.

“Security in this area obviously, the inhabitants will be very scared and skeptical about whether or not they are safe. The Interior Minister and the IGP yesterday (January 23) appeared before the Interior and Defense Committee in parliament, a few questionings went on and how this issue will be solved but as we know, with parliamentary work when the committee is done, it will come out with a report on the floor of parliament as to how the meeting went,” she said.

The MP for the Constituency also visited the family of the deceased to extend her sympathy and contribute financially.

She encouraged the widow and donated some money to support the family.

Meanwhile, the police have begun investigations into the issue to bring to book the perpetrators involved in the crime.
