A Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kofi Ameyaw, has admonished Ghanaians to support government in its fight to ensure security across the country.

According to him, security is not the sole responsibility of government.

Mr Ameyaw reiterated the Inspector General of Police’s assurance of safety as “most crimes committed in the country are not so sophisticated”.

Speaking on TV3’s morning show New Day, the NPP US branch member said the safety of Ghanaians was atop the list of President Nana Addo Dankw Akufo-Addo despite questions arising over the NPP’s commitment on security as a result of political vigilantism by some of its party members.

IGP David Asante-Apeatu has already assured the public and the international community that Ghana was safe following the recent arrests of three persons in possession of objects believed to be explosives.

According to Kofi Ameyaw, the government is taking pragmatic steps to equip the police with the needed tools to support its work.

He called for emphasis to be placed on intelligence gathering as “measures can be put in place but that would not necessarily prevent people from committing crimes”.

“We have a leader who will deliver. Security is a priority on his list,” he said.
