Akim Swedru SHS to get modern toilet facilities

The Akim Swedru SHS (AKISSS) Old Students Association together with the Community Livelihood Support Organisation (COLISO), a local Non - Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Akim Oda have secured funding for the provision of toilet facilities for the students.

The two toilet facilities with 12-seater WC each for both boys and girls would cost GHC 100,000 Cedis with additional GHC 50,000 for the provision of Bio-gas system.

80 percent of the fund sourced by different partners from Belgium are from; the City of Antwerp, FOS - Belgium, ABVV-AC Antwerp, FARYS, Humasol, Ghana Council - Belgium and the Flemish Government within the framework of the Flemish Partnership Water for Development.

The remaining 20 percent is from AKISSS Old Students Association (Anuanom) and the Birim South District Assembly.

COLISO is the implementing agency for the project.

Madam Elizabeth Ama Asamoah, the headmistress of AKISSS said, the current poor state of toilet facilities of the school was a burden on her and that she was thankful to the funding partners for the facilities which would serve a student - population of 2,746.

Mr Kwaku Acheampong the President for Ghana Council - Belgium assured that, the Ghanaian community in Belgium were fully prepared to support people in Ghana when any need within their reach is addressed to them.

“Good and quality work will be done to meet the deadline of 31st July,” Mr. Isaac Asare the chairman for COLISO noted.

Rev. Dr. Benzies Isaac Adu Okoree the Chairman for Board of Governors of the school expressed gratitude to the NGO and the partners for the facilities and assured that, the entire board and the school would be in cooperation with the contractor when work starts.

The Queenmother of Akyem Bosome Traditional Area, Nana Kwartema Minkyim II, a representative from the City of Antwerp cut the sod for commencement of work.
