NCA sanctioned 131 radio stations for violating aspects of the Electronics Communications Act
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has threatened to close down defaulting radio stations following the expiration of the December 19, 2017 general amnesty for the stations to regularise their authorisation status.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Director of Corporate and Consumer Affairs at the NCA, Nana Defie Badu.
The Authority had indicated previously that all defaulting commercial FM Stations, granted amnesty, were to rectify all outstanding issues by the 15th of last month, and pay a pecuniary penalty based on the number of days of violation but should not exceed one year in any case.
The statement said while some radio stations took advantage of the general amnesty to meet their outstanding regulatory requirements, including the payment of outstanding fees and penalties, others have not complied with it.
This has led to the decision by the Authority to shut down the defaulting FM stations.
The NCA urges all licence and authorisation holders to comply with the terms and conditions of their various licences and authorisations for a well regulated communications industry.
