The president of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV, has commended president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his choice of Martin Amidu as special prosecutor to deal with corruption in the country.
He also applauded the Appointments Committee of parliament for endorsing Mr Amidu's nomination as Ghana’s first special prosecutor.
"I congratulate the president of the Republic of Ghana for his bold choice of Martin Amidu as our first special prosecutor and I also want to commend the appointment committee of parliament for endorsing his nomination," he said.
The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State said this at the first general meeting of the National House of Chiefs held in Kumasi on Thursday, 15 February 2018.
He expressed happiness about government’s interest in accountability in the country noting that, the nation cannot develop without accountability.
Mr Amidu, a former Attorney General, was vetted on Tuesday, 13 February 2018 by the Appointments Committee. He will carry out the extraordinary responsibility of independently fighting corruption.
